Separate the parts of the shoe.
Describe the upper, lining, footbed and outsole separately. A mesh-look or smooth-looking surface does not establish the final material composition. Ask for the specific description of each part to be recorded.
Review the closure as a design choice.
The collection includes strap, lace, elastic-gusset, slip-on and pull-on directions. Discuss strap width and position, opening dimensions, trim colour and the proposed fastening construction for the chosen style.
Put colour references into the brief.
Use a clear colour reference, labelled artwork or agreed sample where available. Identify which upper panels, trims, lining and sole areas the requested colour applies to. Record the colour breakdown alongside the quantities.
Discuss the evidence you need.
If your purchase requires particular tests, labels or product documents, identify the destination market and required scope at enquiry stage. Any performance or compliance claim needs the relevant evidence for the specific product and version being discussed.
A useful specification checklist
Upper · lining · footbed · sole · fastening · colour references · size chart · artwork · sample reference · requested documentation.
Terms such as “knit-look”, “felt-look” and “smooth upper direction” describe the visual direction in the catalogue. Final materials and any performance requirements are confirmed in writing.
